Jeep Action Shots

Alright. I drive a gas guzzling SUV. Being a militant environmentalist living by myself in a large city, I get asked about that quite a bit. Why do I have a Jeep? Well, the answer is that I chose to buy a car when I lived in the great state of Colorado. It gave me the freedom to explore the rocky mountains that is afforded by a high clearance, good shocks, and four wheel drive. My 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee—also known as the mad Jeep by the ski team—is a member of my family and very special.

Why did I get a Jeep? This answer lies in the following photos. Very few of these places are reachable with a Geo Metro. It’s too bad that I didn’t always have a camera. Many a time, I’ve been on tall mountains that offer magazine ad quality Jeep shots, but I just didn’t have the camera.

My Great Uncle Ralph is pushing the Jeep back on the trail—or so he pretends. We stopped after everyone had to get out of the car because driving into a rut I accidentally balanced the Jeep on two tires (the front right and rear left). Oops. May 24, 2003.

Ben’s “mad Subi” is the only thing that came close to being as cool as the mad Jeep. However, I don’t think Subaru’s—despite their 4WD—are supposed to cross rocky streams like this. Maybe that’s why Ben got a flat tire a quarter mile down the trail from here. Sept 14, 2002.

There’s my uncle Ron. Sept 1, 2002.

Interstate 25, Colorado Springs, Colorado
Out the driver’s side window—this is the last view of the academy cadet area for both the Jeep and me. The is the last day the mad Jeep was in Colorado. I have begun my drive home to Minnesota. May 29, 2003.

Boston, Massachusetts
Now I’m a Mass-hole. I drive too fast, cut people off, and always accelerate if I see a yellow light. No boulders. No streams. Just traffic. And the worse road conditions of anywhere I’ve ever driven. Actually I guess the Jeep shocks do take the bite out of the potholes.
