Naples has a nice ring to the ear, but we found it to be rather dirty. The guide book said that it was gripped by Mafia and crime in general. When we were there, the municipal workers had been on strike for two weeks--meaning, among other things, that the trash hadn't been picked up. An English gentleman that we shared a cab with on the way to Mt Vesuvius said that it is suspected that the Municipal strike may be linked to a couple high level trials in Rome and Naples which started at the same time.
